DIY Steampunk Goggles

This steampunk DIY from Chris Heubert came across my facebook today. Brilliant ideas on crafting and really quite amusing in presentation! Check it out.

As a side note, I do not understand why, if I say I’m not into cosplay, I keep posting these tutorials on making steampunk accessories. . .

Do It Yourself Nuclear Fusion

This is not photoshop, its a DIY ‘Star in a jar’. AMAZING!

Hackaday

By far the coolest projects we see are those dealing with high voltages and deep vacuums. Vacuum tubes of all types fall into this category, as do the electron microscopes we see from time to time. The king of all vacuum and electron hacks is the Farnsworth Fusor, a machine that will both transmute the elements and bathe you in neutrons. Fun stuff, and [Daniel] has a great tutorial for building your own.

[Dan]’s fusor is surprisingly simple to make. Obviously, the most important part is the vacuum chamber which in this build is based around a glass oil cup cylinder. With just a few roughly machined parts – the only tool needed to make the metal plates is a drill press – it can hold a low enough vacuum to contain a star in a jar.

DIY: Steampunk Top Hat

A very cool tutorial for turning a standard felt ‘cowboy’ hat into a top hat.  Quite simple really, ‘just add water’.  The blogger’s inspiration came from this nice video on YouTube:

I’ve got an old hat just like this…  But, I said I would never wear a steampunk hat…  But, it would be so easy…  But I would be a total dork…  But, I already am a dork…

We’ll see what happens.  In the meantime here are some other great steampunk and steampunk-ish hats from Meiljolie at ‘All Things Crafty’

Such a cool DIY site for modding ordinary stuff with steampunk style.  Sorry dear, but I am totally going to make some of this stuff… someday.

BEHOLD ‘THE DATAFLASK’

Behold ‘The DATAFLASK’

 Hey all,

Here’s a super nerdy post for all you techies out there.

I’m really a novice at all of this and there may have been better methods (which I would love to hear) and there may also be problems I have not yet encountered that others may be able to predict.

Essentially what I have done is created a personal, portable, operating system configuration on a portable hard drive. It allows me to work in a consistent environment with all of my personal files, software, and settings by plugging into any computer that will boot from a USB. In addition the system is designed to be a portable clone of both my work computer (on which which I cannot install Ubuntu due to policy) and my home computer and have all of the files from both available to me wherever I am.
